Table Top Robots
Each Robot consists of an X Y (optional Z) ball screw driven Cartesian system. Each System has 2 (or 3) Smartmotors Pre-wired RS-232 serial daisy chain (and Combitronic optional).
Designed as pre-configured system of components, the Table Top Robots are ready to be controlled either via Host PC, PLC, HMI, or all stand alone with user defined downloaded programs.

HLD Actuators
The Harmonic Linear Drive™ (HLD) is an innovative linear belt drive solution providing high accuracy and low cost without the need for a gearhead or brake! Instead of using a fixed belt to move the load, the HLD uses a recirculating belt, folded back upon itself and routed over subtly different diameter pulleys yielding gear reduction by way of the Harmonic Drive Principle, without the cost or backlash of a separate gearhead. This technique is so revolutionary, it has patents applied for in more than 30 countries.

Evolution of Flexible Tooling
SmartMotor and Combitronic for Aircraft Skin Processing
Aircraft wings are the most critical structural component of the entire aircraft and the precision fabrication of aircraft "skins" has become nothing short of engineering artistry. Airplane fuselages and wings for the aviation, space and defense industries are made of 1mm-5mm thick contoured aluminum or aluminum composite and designed to be both incredibly strong and lightweight, a challenging combination that's been mastered thanks to computer assisted design and automation in manufacturing.
The video shows the progression of a flexible tooling machine, such as the one from Line Machines in Canada (not in video). The key capability with SmartMotor is using Combitronic (runs over DeviceNet or CANopen without interfering) for group addressing and global addressing, and the ability to start and stop motion of groups or of all motors at the same time, regardless of current position.
Imagine a supersized bed of nails where every "nail" is actually an electromechanical actuator with a SmartMotor™ servo attached to its base. Flexitool can exactly match the unique contoured shape of almost any large metal panel (with support equivalent to a hard tooled fixture) for further processing such as milling, inspection and laser scribing.
SmartMotor (SM3416DT-PLS2)
Accelerated Torque and Speed
Similar to other members of the OEM Series of SmartMotors, the SM3416DT is unique by virtue of its low cost and high continuous and peak output torques. It delivers as much as 480 oz-in of peak torque while maintaining over 200 oz-in of continuous torque with a maximum speed of over 5,000rpm. The entire line of OEM Series SmartMotors is priced competitively for high volume, OEM applications. Featuring standard NEMA 34 frame dimensions, the SM3416DT will meet unique customer requirements
SmartMotor (SM2316DT-PLS2)
Extended Capabilities
This new upgraded version of the SM3416DT is the same compact size of the original but with more power and features. This greatly increases performance in applications such as: traverse-and-take-up with automatic reversal on soft limit, high moment loading deceleration in Vertical Load applications and high speed position capture events.
